Growing up, it was always my job to set the table for family dinners, special occasions, and holidays. While I wasn’t very good at it and didn’t particularly like it, my grandma was a table setting queen. She always used proper etiquette, and her table decor was frequently updated to match the season or occasion. While I only really liked the toys (aka napkin rings) that came along with this as a child, I’ve grown very fond of her traditions in my adulthood.
What was seemingly a frivolous table-setting task has become a way to escape laptops, phones, and TV. I’ve learned that no matter whether it’s an average Tuesday night or this year’s biggest wedding, a nice table arrangement invites someone to stay awhile. In essence, letting someone enjoy time with those they care about most.
